The Art of the Unplug: How to Truly Disconnect and Recharge for a Stronger Week

If your weekends feel like a second job, you’re doing it wrong.

In sales, the line between work and personal life often blurs.

With smartphones tethering us to emails, CRMs, and client messages 24/7, weekends easily become an extension of the workweek.

We might leave the office, but mentally, we’re still on the clock, checking “urgent” requests or worrying about deals.

If your weekends feel like a second job, you’re not truly unplugging, and that’s the fast track to burnout.

True disconnection isn’t just stepping away from your desk, it’s mentally and emotionally detaching from work.

It’s about creating space for rest, joy, and engagement outside sales.

Like your phone, your brain and body need recharging to operate at peak.

Failing to unplug risks:

• Diminished creativity - downtime fuels new ideas

• Increased stress - your nervous system never resets

• Poor decision making - fatigue erodes judgment

• Strained relationships - presence fades at home

• Burnout - your energy drains to zero

Unplugging is a skill. Here’s how to master it:

Set Boundaries:

Tell clients and colleagues your off hours. Use out of office replies.

Most respect clear limits.

Silence Notifications:

Non negotiable. Turn off emails, CRMs, and chat alerts.

Check only at set times, or not at all.

Plan Joyful Activities:

Don’t hope to relax. Schedule hobbies, family time, exercise, or social fun that pull you away from work thoughts.

Create a Shutdown Ritual:

Signal to your brain work is done. A to do list for Monday, tidying your desk, or reviewing wins closes the mental loop.

Mastering the art of the unplug isn’t about being less dedicated, it’s about being strategically dedicated.

True productivity comes from balance, focused work paired with real rest.

Recharge, and you’ll close more deals with greater clarity, energy and less stress.

P.S. What’s one thing you’re doing this weekend to truly unplug? Share your tips.
